Response paper #2 – Due May 24 Globalization in the Apparel Industry
Go to any large store (Fred Meyer, Target, Mervyn’s, Nordstrom, Meier and Frank, etc.) or shopping mall. You can go to one store or several. Record for twenty-five (25) items of apparel (clothing or shoes): where they were made, price of item, type of item, store where found, and any pertinent comments. You might want to record your information in a table:
Where item was assembled or manufactured |
Price |
Type of item (shoe, shirt, coat) |
Name of store |
Turn in your table of information and a 1 page commentary on your interpretation of the results of your survey. What patterns do you see, either in types of garments or locations of assembly? What do you think explains the patterns (or lack of pattern)? How do you explain any anomalies (countries or items that fall outside of expected patterns)? How does the data you gathered differ from that of the class as a whole? We will plot this information on a map during class and take class time for discussion of your results and comments. You will have a chance to update your findings with the results from the class.
Due: May 24 – data due/in class map project (final copy due May 28)
