Introduction
This lab will introduce the ArcGIS software including
the ArcMap and ArcCatalog modules. You will learn the following skills
in ArcView:
-
Displaying map data
-
Navigating a map
-
Looking at feature attributes
-
Browsing map data
-
Searching for map data
-
Adding data to ArcMap
Instructions
Read Chapters 1 and 2 of Getting to Know ArcGIS Desktop.
Then do the tutorial exercises in Chapters 3 and 4. You will need
to load the data from the Getting to Know ArcGIS desktop book onto the
hard drive of the computer on which you are working. The default
directory for the tutorial data is C:\GTKArcGIS. Don't put it there.
Put it on a drive that you have access to. Make sure you keep the
CD since if you lose or corrupt your data then you will need to reload
it.
