1.  This quarter we have discussed 5 different domains of social life: mating, attachment/parenting, hierarchical power, reciprocity and coalitional.  While we discuss these in terms of separate domains, the reality is that there is a large degree of overlap between the domains.  Pick one domain and describe the ways in which the other four domains might influence interactions within that domain.

 

2.  Men and women behave somewhat differently across different domains.  Explain the gender differences between the different domains, as well as the theoretical rationale for why they occur.

3.  Consider a “risky” child.  What are the conditions under which one would expect increases as opposed to decreases in the amount a parent is willing to invest in that child?

 

4.  Belsky and Chisholm use Life History Theory to account for the influence of child attachment patterns on adult romantic attachments.  Describe their theoretical rationale as well as the three primary attachment styles and their proposed adult correlates.

 

5.  Men and women look for different characteristics in their partners.  Describe the content of male and female mate preferences, as well as the rationale for why they exist. 

 

6.  There is a well established tendency for people to prefer their in-group.  In current society, race is something that often indicates group membership.  Describe the findings and implications of the Kurzban et al. article to this issue.

 

7.  Describe and briefly discuss the central problems to be solved in each of the five domains.
