Critical Thinking Reflection
Critical Thinking is the basis of any good college experience. In high school you are told what to think and when to think it, but in college they want to know what you think and why you think it. Critical thinking is asking why when you think you shouldn’t, and coming up with your own reasons for things, rather than listening to other people’s reasoning and accepting those reasons as your own. The critical thinking aspect of college is one of the most important things we will learn, not only for the rest of college but for the rest of our lives.
One of the ways critical thinking has been implemented in this term is through our forays into writing analytically. We have learned to not only argue for one point or opinion in our papers, but also explore and analyze opposing and differing views as well. Through this we not only provide the readers of our papers with a more well-rounded argument but also we are able to better understand the subjects of our papers ourselves.
The biggest area we have used our analytical writing skills is in our extended essay. It is for this reason that I have chosen it as my example for critical thinking. I think it shows a marked improvement over my papers in the past, mostly because I was able to talk about both sides of the argument in the paper before coming to a conclusion, instead of deciding what I thought about the subject before I started writing the paper.
