2nd Term Communications Reflection

So here I am, communicating with you, the massive numbers of people that I am sure visit this obscure website regularly, talking about different things I learned about communication this term in college. Just a little bit of irony to start you off there. This term we spent very little time on our websites, probably less than last term, and there is no way that last term was enough instruction or time allotment. Oh well, I seem to have gotten some things done anyway.

This term was all about art. I am not an artist. I am not even able to be confused with an artist. I am one of those people who considers himself just creative enough to be smart, but not enough to be able to produce great art. To me, I was learning a completely new form of communication, one I am not sorry to say I didn't really enjoy. I once wrote that artist were special people who God gave the invaluable talent to be able to produce objects of interest that regular people can talk about while in between talking about and doing things that really matter. I stand by that statement. In my opinion, as a form of communication art falls short of its intended goal. The reason for this is the unpredictability of human nature. How can I get my point across when I don't know how you view the world? This new development in our class was, unfortunately, a huge failure for me. I hope that some others were able to see more in it than I could.

The other major form of communication this term was, once again, my research paper. With me, I was faced with the task of taking a seemingly uninteresting topic and bringing the pertinent facts to the surface. Let's face it, the federal budget is about as boring as you can get, but I think I did succeed in making the paper a useful tool for understanding the national debt, as well as explaining why this should matter to each and every person who lives in America.

All in all, I guess you could say it was a term of highs and lows for communication. I got to see what I wasn't good at, as well as practice what I was good at, so, as with most things, its a bittersweet end. I put some links below so you can see an example of each of the forms of communication we expanded upon this term.
