Today was the third week of chess instruction at Duniway Elementary school for this year. There has been an afterschool chess club at Duniway for the past few years, so many of the students are experienced players. Many of the students are new to the program.

Today we were working on reading and writing chess notation. The students played out a game today that was played in Dusseldorf in 1908 between Von Bardeleben and Alekhine. This game can be viewed to the right. Very cool.

Yesterday (Thursday, October 16) the Chess Club @ PSU started its work with the students at Duniway Elementary School. The instructors were, from left to right, Katie, Kristin, Jessica and Justin. The enrollment in the afterschool chess program at Duniway is 58 students, grades one through five. We had a great time, and we learned a lot. The students are very apt chess players. Cheers for the Chess Heros!

The Party in the Park was a great time for the Chess Club. Thirty-four people signed onto our contact list, and most of them expressed interest in participating in our Duniway Elementary Chess Club program. Thank-yous for everyone who stopped by the table. This is going to be an exciting year. Thanks to Katherine, Justin and Grandma for helping to staff the event.
