Summary
After observing a varying amount of teaching styles in my observations, I’ve decided that different teaching styles are dependent upon personal preferences, personal experiences, faculty partner styles and expectations, knowledge of different teaching strategies and openness to different teaching strategies.
Since most teachers teach to their own learning style, I should thus teach reflective observation geared towards a divergent learning style and implementing the Instruction paradigm. However, I’m more inclined to the Learning paradigm geared to accommodators, which perhaps is a positive thing since I prefer to sample other teaching styles than the one I prefer to learn with.
The key to my philosophy, thus far, is openness and a sense of humor. I know very little about teaching, but I’m excited about the different techniques and research I was introduced to during spring Mentor Training, and plan on sampling a large number of those ideas, strategies, and paradigms during my time as a mentor until I find the niche that works best for me and my students.
