GEOG 4/582 Lab 1: Journal Articles Search

Instructions

You will use an online database to search 4 journal articles that you will review this term. The four articles should cover 2 of the following remote sensing topics (i.e., 2 articles for each topic):

• Atmospheric correction (e.g., haze removal, dehaze)
• Histogram matching
• Slope aspect correction
• Classification based on texture information
• Object-based classification, image segmentation
• Classification – decision tree, knowledge based classification
• Classification – spectral unmixing / subpixel classification
• Classification – fuzzy classification
• Classification – ancillary data
• Change detection
• Change vector analysis
• Change detection – ancillary data
• Land-use/land-cover change monitoring
• Multiple spatial resolution images integration
• Hyperspectral Remote Sensing
• Accuracy assessment / Classification errors
• Others (check with the instructor for approval)

Go to PSU library website (http://www.lib.pdx.edu/) and select and click the “Database” link. After the databases page opens, find the “Web of Science” entry and click it. Use the general option to find the two topics you are interested in. Try to explore different search methods on the Web of Science page. Once you find some articles that you like, browse the content of each entry and check what references it cited and how times it has been cited. You might find more interesting papers from these cross-references.

Submit the followings by noon April 4 to the instructor.

1) A list of 3 remote sensing journals. Describe their publishing schedule (i.e., quarterly, bimonthly etc) and the main focus of their articles. Also, indicate their call numbers and location (i.e., floor level) in PSU library, if available.

2) A list of 4 references and the keywords you used to find them. Make sure you can get a hold of these articles in PSU library or through inter-library loan.
