Bike Thoughts
You want to know why so many people have a poor opinion of cyclists and thier advocacy groups? This is a perfect example.
99% of you never even heard the show. You heard about the show, third hand, from someone with an axe to grind.
I did hear the show. P.K. did not endorse chasing down bike riders with a car and running them over. P.K. gave his opinion, as crudely stated as it was, that when cylists are weaving in and out of traffic, ignoring stop signs, and cutting off a car, that he wouldn't feel the least bit bad about those people getting creamed for riding like idiots.
That's it. Agree with him, or not, it's his opinion and he has a right to it.
You supposedly bright, articulate, community conscience, civic minded individuals sound more like a bunch of humorless Nazi's.
Do I have an axe of my own to grind? You bet I do. I'm close friends with someone who works there, and you know they've been dealing with from the ?bike community?? Threats of violence, threats of vandalism, profanity laced phone calls, etc.
Classy! Well done! You guys are awesome! /end sarcasm
Don't like P.K. or that show? Don't listen. Oh, wait a minute. That's right. You're already not listening. Which is why none of you have the faintest idea what you're talking about.
This is what the bike community has come to:

And now, what civilized people have to say:
My feelings on the situation are mixed. Not only have I been and will I continue to be a fan of the Playhouse, but I AM ALSO A PROUD BIKER. I commute an hour a day to and from work 5 days a week. I can understand PK's frustration with bikers who do NOT follow the rules of the road, which is who those comments were aimed at. I personally had a fellow biker ride so close to me trying to pass (so he could go faster) that I veered off the path and fell and broke my wrist. Not only were his comments aimed at inconsiderate biker citizens, but I happen to agree with them AS a biker myself. The same sentiment DEFINITELY goes to inconsiderate CARS. Bikers who try to power trip on cars make us all look bad, are we so high on our soap boxes that we have chosen to ignore this and become martyrs? If you ARE following the rules of the road, those comments weren't aimed at you so why are you upset?! If he said Nazi's should be shot- would you take offense to that as a NON-Nazi??? Of COURSE not, those comments were not aimed at YOU. Same holds true for this, if you are a biker who holds cars in respect they way they need to for US, then you have nothing to be offended by. I heard the original broadcast, since I am a fan of the show, and as a biker- paid special attention to the topic when I heard it brought up. Let me assure you that it was VERY clear who the anger was aimed at- bikers who have put people in cars in danger with their lack of saftey and lack of respect for others on the road. I understand that the podcast isn't available for download? Honestly, if you didn't hear it because you don't listen to the show, then it shouldn't concern you. I wouldn't be offended if some other morning show said they hated girls with brown hair and wished they were dead-because I understand that opinions can't be judged, just disagreed with. I guess the point is that no one is really unintelligent enough to take one guy's opinion of inconsiderate bikers to the point of actually trying to HURT another human... Just like we have the right to commute safely on the road and express our thoughts- so do OTHER citizens have the right to commute safely on the road and express their thoughts. I am actually EMBARRASSED by the way our community is reacting in such a violent and childish manner- actually threatening to HARM someone after CRITICIZING them for doing the same? Protesting at a community event for CHILDREN? Did I see someone actually suggesting on another forum here FORCING the host of the show to HIT a bicyclist so that he could go to jail- boy doesn't THAT go against your plight?! How about if you feel strongly enough about this- file a complaint, write a letter, contact the station manager. You all don't realize that people who DON'T bike read this (in light of the current situation) and that we now look like massive hypocrites- rising up against violence against US but PROMOTING it against others? LET'S BE CIVILIZED if we don't agree with their LACK of civilization? Just a thought from someone stuck in the middle.
I'm saddened by your comments. Our system of law strives to promote the tenant ?innocent until proven guilty?. By you saying you don't need to hear it yourself, and imposing sanctions on the show, you are doing just that. You are also making your choices based on assumptions. You speak of giving the host an option that he doesn't have (based on my research into the P&P manual for the station). He is not authorized to release the podcast given the current climate. I would like to see everyone look at themselves very carefully before doing anything that has an effect on someone else. ?Us, as well as ?them?. There is no spoon.
Anonymous, It is simply a business matter. If it is possbible, based on the behavior of an employee, that a suit may be brought against an company, then all material pertaining to it is sequestered. That's just business. We, as a society ?should? not automatically assume guilt simply based on witholding. We need proof, like the eye(ear)witness testimony of those that actually heard it. And even then? that must be qualified and verified. When we, as a society, find people/institutions guilty and begin to impose sanctions/punishments on them without due process we are not acting in concert with the constitution. No matter how wrong the perp is, it/he/she must be given the same due process we would want if accused of something. I love our constitution? it really does rock on a global scale.
You ask ?What should we do now?? Well, here's a suggestion: PAY ATTENTION! Did PK go to extemes to express his opinion? No doubt about it. But his opinion is legitimate and deserves to be listened to. As I am losing my eyesight I no longer drive nor do I cycle. What I do is walk and rare is the day I am not nearly run down by a bicyclist. I figure the day is coming that I will be hit.
Some other tips: Red lights and red octagonal signs mean stop. Observe them. Don't weave in and out of traffic. PK obviously had an issue with being cut off by a cyclist. I know when I was driving I did. Obey all traffic laws. Picking and choosing which laws you will follow is not an option. Yes, PK went to extemems to make his point. But you need to understnad the frustration from which his opinion comes. Sure, a lot of ? maybe even most ? bicyclists are courteous and law abiding. But there is an outlaw element amongst you (dare I mention Critical Mass) that needs to be taken care of.
If any of you, were actual listeners of that morning show, were actual listeners of that radio station, had actually heard, first hand, what was supposedly said, You would realize you're being manipulated, and cheerfully participating in, a completely misguided and misinformed campaign. P.K. did not endorse or encourage any kind of violence against cyclists. He ?did' talk all kinds of smack about bad cyclists, and took a number of phone calls from listeners who called in to share horror stories of thier own. While hardly a glowing endorsement of the biking community, it was certainly not some kind of call to action to harm anyone. After reading the bulk of the postings on this site I find myself having no problem believing the listener's stories. I'm sure that fact your information about what was said is wrong will in no way deter you from continuing your mindless witch-hunt, which you've instigated via third and fourth hand accounts, but there you go. By the way, the guy who runs this site has been invited onto The Playhouse a couple of times. He couldn't be bothered to do so. For someone claiming to represent a socially conscience group of reasonable citizens, there seems to be an amazing lack of willingness to speak with the very people you're accusing of wrong doing. And I know about the invitation to appear on The Playhouse, with a free mic, to this websites guru, because (unlike the rest of you) I listen to the show and can thus relay that kind of information first hand.
Hey Playhouse: I was listening to your broadcast that everyone is over-reacting about, I was not offended what-so-ever even though I ride (mountain) bikes sometimes on the street. I do not get in the way of cars. I don't impeed traffic. I am aware of the fact that cars are bigger than me and could kill me. And - most importantly, I commute 45 minutes to work everyday and every little friggin thing that gets in my way when I'm running late makes my blood boil from Bikes to school busses, to tractors to slow f'n drivers so I understand as a biker to stay out of the way of vehicles when I have to use the road!!! I still can't figure out why people missed the message and only heard that you encourage people to kill bicyclers.
Hey playhouse! I'm am very much so on your side when it comes to the cyclists. This weekend was the STP, in which the cyclists came plowing through St. Helens. On top of all of those a-holes, we also had Warped Tour going on, causing major traffic issues. These cyclists were riding sometimes 3 wide, riding in the lanes of the highway. They were also slowing down and pacing the cars when they saw that they needed to turn. FOLLOW THE RULES OF THE ROAD!
Hey Playhouse. Unlike those Nincom f'ing poop bike riders, I listed to the show and they are completely mis-interpreting your words. I don't give an S if some biker not following the rules gets hit by a car, just like I don't care if some dumbass in a car kills himself not following the rules; rock on playhouse.
Hi PK, I wanted to comment on your 'Bikers Suck' topic from Friday and today. I just wanted to say that I hate those same bikers, the ones that have absolutely no street smarts or regards for others. I'll bet half or more of those bikers are people that had DUI's and can't drive cars, therefore leaving them bitter and hateful toward people with drivers licenses. This morning there was a stupid biker in front of me in the Pearl District and of course she ran a stop sign so I blared my horn at her. Keep up the good work.
Morning Playhouse! I wish all these holier than thou cyclists would start paying the same taxes us drivers do to use the roads, I think that until they pay a fee for their bike, and a liscense to ride on our streets and a tire tax, they have no right to protest about anything, they show no respect for larger moving vehicles on the road. Please can we have the same rules on the river apply on the road, a kayak must give right of way to a larger boat on upto tankers having true full right of way. A bike will stop easier than any car or truck, they should be the MOST cautious of all of the vehicles on the road.
Hey Playhouse! This started in NY because of the riders who cut in between cars, cut us off from the left to make a right, drove in between cars and never gave a clue to which way they were go. Those people need to stay the hell off the road. Bikes and cars/trucks do not go together.
