Journals for
Unusual Stories from Many Lands
We will use the stories from this book for pleasure reading, and
also for vocabulary study. The journals you write will count 15% of your
total course grade. You need to do at least one journal every week, but
you may do more if you want to. If you do more, I will use the eight highest
grades to calculate the average. We will do an
example the first week.
JOURNAL ANSWERS
Do at least one journal every week. You must do at least 8 by the
end of the term.
Answer the questions on the Journal
handout. Keep the first one blank, amd make photocopies
of it to write your answers on.
Hand in your Journal answers on Thursday of every week, in a file
folder.
Keep all of your old answers in the file folder. Hand those in with
the new answers every week.
VOCABULARY
Keep a list
of your new vocabulary. Keep this list separate from your file. We will
have weekly quizzes on your vocabulary.
Make a vocabulary
card for each new word. These cards will help you study for the quizzes,
and they will help you remember the new words.
Bring your vocabulary cards to class every day. I will ask one of
you to share a word with the rest of the class
each day, at the beginning of class.
Each vocabulary card should have this information on it:
- The main word and its part of speech
- Other related word forms and their parts of speech
- The sentence/context from the story where the word is
- A sentence of your own. Your sentence must show that you understand
the meaning of the word.
