Th 6/27 Student self-introductions, as time permits.  Class discussions of packet HW: a) discussion grading criteria, b) effective listening and participation, c) group task roles, d) functions e) problem-solving steps.  Introduction to Discussion #1--"Marriage?". Speech process steps #1 & #2, esp. step #1--selecting a topic.  HW:  1) Choose 2 potential speech topics; 2) Study/memorize 3-4 different phrases/functions (pp. D14-D16); 3) Read p. D9 (group building roles), D10 (individual blocking roles), D17-18 (effective leadership); 4) Prepare for discussion "Marriage?" pp. D27-28 5) Read pp. S1-S4 (process, selecting a topic).
T 7/2   Discuss/select speech topics and writing interview questions/identifying influencing factors. Go over packet: effective meetings, groups building roles, individual blocking roles, effective leadership, self-evaluation.  Groups: Discussion #1 (Marriage?) HW: 1) self-evaluations (p. Go over speeches--steps 3 and 4 pp. S6-S7 (interviews and analysis).  Preparation for Lecture #1 (Voter Turnout)class and small groups, pp. 140-141.  Introduction to Discussion #2 (Downsizing).
