Reflection

            This piece of work concerning statistics was all that it needed to be I think. All I was trying to achieve here was to show my activities that I had performed for a week and analyze them in a final piece of writing. I was aiming to properly convey these facts on a chart and on graphs. By keeping track of my activities I was trying to place my daily routine into a visual form. So who would be interested in this you might ask.

            Well, the only people that would really be interested in this is the professor who assigned the assignment and me. The reasons being that I am the one that would gain most from it because it would give me a visual of what I am doing wrong and what I am doing right with my time every day. So what would I change about this assignment?

            If I had the opportunity to change something about this assignment it would be everything about it concerning my time. Like you will read the week that I kept track of my time was very abnormal. So if I could I would keep track of a different week so that the charts and graphs would represent a more accurate figure. That would help me even more because it would be closer if not the true visual of my time spent. This would allow me to change some of my activities for my benefit.  However the whole idea of keeping tack of my time has allowed me to be more aware of my activities and how much time I actually spend doing them. So what does this assignment connect to or remind me of concerning the class.

            This assignment reminded me of the article "Living for Something" by Marcus Garvey. He comments on doing things that are worthwhile and that have a benefit, especially as a cultured colored individual. He expressed the need to do something with you and your life and so I see this time management assignment as a way to begin doing just that. Before you can do what Garvey expresses you must first learn to manage yourself and your time in a positive way. That will make a world of difference when you are trying to achieve something. So what University Studies goal did I use with this assignment?

            This assignment would fit better under the goal of communication.  I believe and have noticed that I am improving rapidly in this goal. I am developing better writing skills. I believe I had pretty good writing skills in the beginning of the year however everyone can use improvement in any type of subject. This specific assignment allowed me to present my information in a different way other than just writing or speaking. This helps in the road to becoming a more communicative person.

Time Management Chart Assignment

The plan was that I would write about what part of the data was more effective and why, but my graph is not what it should be. The week that I had to keep track of my time was very abnormal. It wasn’t anything like my normal week usually is. For example we didn’t have classes on Tuesday of last week so when I wrote down the time spent in class it wasn’t accurate. Because we didn’t have classes I had less homework and therefore I had more time to sleep and relax.

            One other thing that corrupted my time management chart was the fact that my parents gave me a ride to school twice that week. I had also brought my car to school once that week. We also come back to the fact that there was no school on Tuesday, so when I wrote down the hours for commuting it was no where near what I actually spend going and coming from school on the max and buses. There are also other factors that I could go on about.

            I know that what I stated above is not really what you were asking for necessarily, but I know that you believe in the same idea that Paulo Freire did about being a liberating teacher. You have stated that you don’t like the banking system and the way tat it makes teachers interact with and act towards the students. Such as the teacher being a container that contains certain knowledge and the student being a receptacle that receives the knowledge. And so the knowledge gets passes from teacher to student and then the student becomes a teacher figure and passes the exact same knowledge to someone else. And the problem is that nobody ever analyses the knowledge or thinks about it in a deeper way as to make personal conclusions about things and the world. So I thought that maybe you wouldn’t mind that I stepped out of the box and expressed my true thought on the matter of the time chart. In doing that I learned that I am learning to think more for myself and analyzing things in a different way than before. If I hadn’t taken your class and hadn’t read the article on Paulo Freire I probably would of mad something up and not cared that it was not what related to me personally. So in a way by taking your class it is helping me liberate my way of thinking and slowly getting me out of the banking system.

            However I will tell you that even though I feel that the chart is not accurate as to my normal week, I think that the most effective part of it was the category of sleep. I saw that that week I was sleeping more than I thought I was and that was a big surprise to me. I also recognize that the data shows that I don’t study or spend as much time doing homework. That’s because I also do homework while I travel ion the max or when I am at work. Overall I like the assignment because I learned how to use excel and how I could manage my time better.

Response to Chp. 7: The Divine Marquis

            Chapter seven was a very interesting chapter because it is where the author stops telling you about something and lets you see it for yourself. I am talking about the Marquis de Sade and his writings. Before putting in the excerpt from Philosophy in the Boudoir, shattuck writes about the Moors murders case and Ted Bundy. All through out those two topics he constantly talks about how these killers read works by the Marquis de Sade and how it had a very negative influence on them, their lives and ultimately their actions. While reading I would constantly ask myself what was so bad that it contributed to reasons for murder. I really didn’t have an idea of the magnitude and morbidity of Sade until I read it for myself. It really gives you a perspective on the forbidden knowledge that he is taking about. However, after reading the excerpt I realized that there is no such thing as an overall true forbidden knowledge. Well not now anyway. In my opinion the only true forbidden knowledge that ever existed was back in the beginning with Adam and Eve. It was pleasure, sin, and life, as humanity knows it. What exists now is a branch of that forbidden knowledge. By that I mean that there is a forbidden knowledge for everyone and it is not all the same. Going back to Ted Bundy, Sade turned out to be some of his forbidden knowledge. That is what led to his demise, but that was because of the way he used that knowledge. There have been and are other people who read Sade and it changes their way of looking at life and their way of thinking, but it doesn’t corrupt them. That is because Sade is not part of their forbidden knowledge. Forbidden knowledge is what a person makes it to be. For example Darwin and his evolution crap. He had an idea and had access to certain information and he turned it into forbidden knowledge. He presented that knowledge and that knowledge made people loose faith. That is forbidden knowledge because besides not being true, and not having any true concrete evidence he still introduced it anyway. No one would have had to know, but he told everyone. Today evolution is slowly being proved wrong and faulty. One example is research that some genetic scientist did on human genes and the bible story of Adam and Eve. The scientists looked at the genes of 500 men and women from all around the world and they discovered that all of those people had two common ancestors. Now if humans had evolved from apes that would be impossible. But because those ancestors were Adam and eve it makes it very possible. The Bible gives proof of that and shows how other cultures, languages and races came to be. So Darwin's forbidden knowledge was the idea of evolution and what he did with it.

            After reading chapter seven I wanted to read some more works by Sade. Believe me, I'm not into the stuff he describes but being an artist I love to gain knowledge that is different and that allows me to think differently from others. Afterwards that knowledge shows through in my art. I think that Sade would do some of that for me. However I have to ask myself weather that knowledge might be part of my forbidden knowledge and where it will lead me. Overall my point is that chapter seven made me think and it helped me come up with the idea that there is no such thing as true forbidden knowledge, just the idea of it. What there is, is a forbidden knowledge that is different for every one. Well that’s all the crazy stuff I have to say for now and I hope what I wrote makes
