Standing at the Edge of the Earth

I knew that this moment would come in time

That I'd have to let go and watch you fly

Syaoran sat in the waiting area by his gate at Hanaeda Airport. What was wrong with him? He had always known he would have to return to Hong Kong when his mission was over, so why was he so miserable about leaving Japan? Hell, he hadn't wanted to come here in the first place.

But he did know. It all had to do with a certain auburn haired girl with sparkling emerald eyes and a sweet smile. He didn't want to leave Sakura.

I know you're coming back so why am I dying inside

Sakura ran through the airport. Where was he? She frantically searched for Syaoran. What was with her? Why was she so frantic? He had said he would come back to visit sometime.

"I have to say goodbye," she told herself. "I have to tell him that I like him."

The girl clutched a paper bag to her chest. She had spent all night working on the gift. She had to give it to Syaoran.

There he was!

Are you searching for words that you can't find

Trying to hide your emotions but eyes don't lie

He looked up. Sakura was standing in front of him.

"Hi," she said tentatively.

"What are you doing here?"

"I, I wanted to say goodbye and give you this."

She held out a paper bag. Her eyes were bright from unshed tears. He took the bag from her.

Guess there's no easy way to say goodbye

Syaoran opened the bag. Nestled inside was a pink teddy bear with gold wings. He gently lifted it out. Except for the wings and color, it was identical to the forest green one he had given her earlier.

His amber eyes met her emerald ones. They were shining with tears and some other emotion.

"Syaoran, I," she paused then finally said in a rush, "You're the guy I have a crush on."

So I'll be standing on the edge of the earth

Hoping that one day you'll come back again

I'll be standing at the edge of the earth hoping for someday

He smiled. He told her earlier that he'd had a crush on her for the longest time. He was glad he felt the same.

"Can I call the bear Sakura?"

A sweet smile lit her face, "If I can call mine Syaoran."

Don't misunderstand what I'm trying to say

I don't want to let you leave this way

A single tear escaped her eye. Syaoran reached out and gently brushed it away. Sakura wrapped her arms around him and buried her face in his shirt sobbing. Hesitantly he held her trying to soothe her.

"Sakura, please don't cry."

"I just don't want to lose you."

I want you to know that I stand right by your side

"You won't. I'll come back; I promise." He held out his pinkie to her, "Yakusoku."

He spoke their traditional promise. She linked pinkies with him.

"Un."

And I know this may be the very last time we see each other cry

"Sakura..."

"Flight 113 will be boarding in five minutes."

But whatever happens know that I'll

I'll be standing at the edge of the earth

Hoping that one day you'll come back again

I'll be standing at the edge of the earth

Hoping that someday you'll come back to me

I'll be praying for whatever it's worth

Believing that one day you'll come back again

I'll be standing at the edge of the earth

Hoping for someday

"Sakura..."

"You have to go; I know."

She looked so sad. He wanted more than anything to make her smile and see her happy.

And I know that this may be the very last time we see each other cry

But whatever happens know that I'll

They stood holding hands for several minutes. Then Sakura leaned over and kissed him on the cheek. She smiled at him.

"I'm not going to say goodbye cause this isn't goodbye. I'll see you again, someday."

I'll be standing at the edge of the earth

Hoping that one day you'll come back again

I'll be standing at the edge of the earth

Hoping that someday you'll come back to me

I'll be praying for whatever it's worth

Believing that one day you'll come back again

"Matte ne Syaoran."

"Matte Sakura."

They hugged then Syaoran took his carry on bag and headed to the gate.

I'll be standing at the edge of the earth

Hoping for someday

Waiting for someday

Believing in someday

Praying for someday

Sakura watched him board the plane. She pressed her nose against the window watching as the plane taxied out to the run way.

I'll be longing for someday

Clinging to someday

Cherishing someday

I'll be thinking of someday

Dreaming of someday

Wishing for someday

I'll be living for someday

Counting on someday

Knowing that one day

I will see you
