Author's note: I don't own Power Rangers or its characters. I also do not own the song If My Heart Had Wings. If I did, I would be much richer than I am.
If My Heart Had Wings
Andros' heart was still racing from the close call. Even though he felt his home was with the other rangers, he, Kerone, and Zhane found themselves on KO-35 half the time helping rebuild.
And when he was here, he found himself the target of every single lady his age on the planet. They didn't seem to understand that he had a girlfriend he loved very much on Earth.
Damn these old wheels
Rollin' too slow
I stare down this white line
With so far to go
Headlights keep comin'
Loneliness hummin' along
He missed Ashley. She was in college back on Earth. While her plans for the future were not contingent on a college education, her family had insisted she go to college, and she had agreed. After all, it was only four years.
This was her last year. Ashley would be graduate in a few months. Then they would have some plans to make. The two of them had been talking about living on the Megaship and dividing their time between Earth and KO-35.
Who poured this rain
Who made these clouds
I stare through the windshield
Thinkin' out loud
Time keeps on crawlin'
Love keeps on calling me home
He loved Ashley with all his heart. When he had first met her and the other Earth rangers, he hadn't expected to become friends let alone fall in love. After losing both Kerone and Zhane, Andros hadn't wanted to risk that kind of hurt again.
I'd jump all these mountains
And take to the skies
Sail through the heavens
With stars in my eyes
But Ashley had changed that. She'd been so persistent and managed to pierce his shield of isolation and wormed her way into his heart. Now he couldn't imagine his life without her.
He kept wishing she was here with him. It would be much more fun working with her. He could just imagine the things they'd do. Besides, he wanted to share his world with her just as she'd shared hers with him.
If my heart had wings
I would fly to you
And lie beside you as you dream
If my heart had wings
KO-35 was quickly becoming the colony it once was. Most of the work left now was fine tuning. As much as Andros enjoyed seeing his former home restored to its beauty, it wasn't where he belonged anymore.
They would be leaving soon. Or at least he hoped so. It could be kind of hard to be a hero. At least on Earth, no one knew who the Rangers were. Andros guessed Zordon's purge was responsible for that. Earth's Rangers didn't have know how lucky they were to have secret identities.
We both committed
We both agreed
You do what you have to
To get what you need
Feeling you near me with so many miles in between
To Andros' surprise, he had found that he could communicate telepathically with Ashley just as he could with Zhane and Kerone. Ashley could only hear him though, not the others. Even more surprising was the fact that distance didn't matter.
*Hey,* she replied. *What's up?*
*Not much,* he replied. *I'm about done here. How's school?*
*Alright. I am so glad this is my last year though. How are things on KO-35?*
*Good except...There's one of those banquet/party things tonight in honor of me and Zhane. I hate those things.*
*They can't be that bad.*
*They always are.*
*We'll see.* She paused for a moment, *I've go to go; Cassie needs me for something.*
*Okay. I love you Ash.*
*Love you too.*
With that she was gone.
Lord it ain't easy
Out here in the dark
To keep us together so far apart
He sighed and headed back to his quarters to change out of his grimy clothes. After a shower and changing into a clean uniform, he entered the room to find Kerone waiting for home. She was dressed in a Ranger uniform though it was not the one the Earth Rangers had originally given her. It was the twin of Zhane's except it was the same grey as the other rangers and had purple contrasts.
"Read to go?" she asked; he nodded. "We're just waiting for Zhane then."
"Zhane's always late," he replied.
"Not if I have anything to say about it," a crease formed on her forehead; Andros guessed she was talking with Zhane. "He'll be here in a minute."
Zhane appeared in uniform and traded a mischievous grin with Kerone. He wondered what those two where up to now. He still had trouble getting used to the fact that his sister and his best friend were dating.
"Let's go!" Kerone linked arms with Zhane and Andros, and off they went.
If my heart had wings
I would fly to you
And lie beside you as you dream
If my heart had wings
Andros twirled a fork in his fingers and waited for everyone to find their seats. Kerone and Zhane sat to his left, and there were several empty seats to his right. That worried him. He would probably be stuck next to the daughters of prominent colonists. Finally everyone was seated, but there were still some empty seats including the one next to Andros. Kiwon stood up.
"Before we begin, I'd like to introduce some guest who will be joining us," he said.
Stuck on this circle
Spinnin' around
Cut loose from this road
That keeps tying me down
Andros' jaw dropped as he recognized five familiar figures. Kerone turned her giggles into a coughing fit, and Zhane hid a broad grin behind his hand."I'd like to present T.J., the Blue Astro Ranger; Carlos, the Black Astro Ranger; Cassie, the Pink Astro Ranger; Saryn, the Phantom Ranger; and Ashley, the Yellow Astro Ranger."
T.J. and Carlos took seats on the other side of the room. Cassie and Saryn found seats next to each other. Ashley came and sat next to him.
"See, I told you it wouldn't be that bad."
If my heart had wings
I would fly to you
And lie beside you as you dream
If my heart had wings
"How did you find the time to visit?" Andros asked as he and Ashley strolled under the moonlit sky.
"It's spring break," Ashley explained.
They walked in silence for awhile.
"KO-35 is really beautiful."
"Yeah, it is."
Ashley blushed when she realized he was looking at her.
"Andros?"
"Yeah."
"Thanks."
"For what?"
"Giving us a chance."
"One of the best decisions I ever made. I'm glad Alpha talked me into it."
She slid into his arms. He smiled and leaned down to kiss her, they stood on a hill framed by the full moon completely content.
