All You Wanted

Noin worriedly watched Zechs walk away. Something was wrong with him. Well, something besides actually being Prince Milliardo Peacecraft who was in disguise, so he wouldn't be killed and working on a way to avenge his murdered family. No, this was something else.

He was her best friend. Had been since they'd met when they were thirteen. Now the two sixteen year olds were starting their first year at Lake Victoria. Noin had been gone for a week; she'd had to deal with her family wanting to parade her around and show her off. Ever since she had returned, Zechs had been more isolated than ever. He seemed so alone.

I didn't know it was so cold

And you needed someone to show you the way

So I took your hand and we figured out

That when the tide comes I'd take you away

Alone. It suddenly hit Noin. Before they had met, Zechs had no one. At school his friends had been herself and two of there classmates. Neither Mac or Harm were here at Lake Victoria. They were going to be lawyers, not pilots.

And Noin had been gone. Zechs had spent his first week at their new school alone. Noin knew from experience that it hurt when you were suddenly on your own after having someone to lean on for awhile.

Noin practically ran through the halls. Where was the access to the roof? That's where Zechs would be. She climbed out of the trap door on to the roof. Zechs' back was to her; he hadn't even noticed her.

She hesitated. How could she let him know that no matter what happened, she would be there for him. People had told him that before and had not followed through. Noin meant what she said. Zechs was the most important person in the world to her.

Words from a song came to mind; Noin opened her mouth.

Zechs turned at the sound of her voice. His sky blue eyes locked onto her violet ones. Noin didn't look away; she would be there if he needed her.

Somehow they ended up in each others' arms. Noin rested her head against his chest. Gently Zechs kissed the top of her head. A cold wind blew around them.

"Come on, let's go inside," Zechs said.

They walked together to Zechs' room. The door snicked shut behind them. There were storms ahead for both of them, but they would always have each other.

I'm sinking slowly

"Noin? Noin? Earth to Noin."

"Huh? What is it Sally?"

"Where were you? You were completely spaced out."

Noin's head rested on her hand. She had slipped the oversized gold ring she wore on a chain on to one of her fingers. It was a class ring from Lake Victoria. By accident her and Zechs' ring orders had been combined. It was his size and style, but had the stones she had chosen and Noin's name. Zechs had insisted she keep the ring.

"Noin?"

"Sorry Sally. The song they just played is one of my favorites. It was popular when I was at Lake Victoria."

"You were thinking about Zechs again."

"Yeah. I know he's out there some where; I just have to find him.

Noin was in trouble. Her solo mission had gone horribly wrong. She didn't dare contact Preventer Headquarters; someone there had betrayed her, and she couldn't be sure she could get a hold of someone she trusted.

She came to the edge of the rooftop. She could jump and end all this. The Preventers would get the information she had gathered anyway; she had already sent it. Zechs had been training an intern, Autumn, who could replace Noin as his partner. Noin wasn't needed.

There were footsteps behind her. Noin whirled around.

"Zechs?" she whispered.

He stood there his hand stretched out to her. He sang.

Zechs wrapped his arms around her.

"How..." Noin asked.

"Sally found the transmission giving the details of your mission, so we knew you were in trouble. After that it was just a matter of finding you before they did."

"I didn't think you needed me."

"You're one of the best no matter what some people at the office day. Besides, even if they didn't care, I do."

Please can you tell me

Noin rested her head against his chest. She tilted her head up to look at him.

"I've been in panic mode, haven't I?"

"Yeah. But you don't have to worry about it. You'll always have someone who cares. Let's go home love."

Together they left the roof. They had weathered another storm together. Life was rough, but together they would survive.
