All I Want For Christmas Is You

Rain stared moodily out the window. Outside was the perfect winter scene. Snow covered the ground and trees, and stars shone clearly in the velvet night sky. It just made Rain feel worse.

Inside it was warm and cheery. A fire blazed at the hearth, and a brightly decorated tree stood in one corner of the room. People were laughing, talking, dancing, and generally having a good time. The Shuffle Alliance and friends had gathered together on Earth to celebrate Christmas. All but Domon. He was trapped on the colony by government affairs. She hadn't seen him in weeks.

Laughter erupted behind her as Allenby finished singing Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer. Someone touched her on the shoulder.

"It's your turn Rain," Cecil said handing her the book.

She sighed and flipped through the book; they were just trying to cheer her up. A title caught her eye, and she told George the page number.

I don't want a lot for Christmas

There is just one thing I need

I don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree

I just want you for my own

More than you could ever know

Make my wish come true

All I want for Christmas is you

Her voice cut through the room. Everyone could hear the pain in her voice. She was a fairly talented singer but didn't often perform. Now she was pouring everything into the song.

I don't want a lot for Christmas

There is just one thing I need

And I don't care about the presents underneath the Christmas tree

I don't need to hang my stocking there up on the fireplace

Santa Claus won't make me happy with a toy on Christmas day

I just want you for my own

More than you could ever know

Make my wish come true

All I want for Christmas is you

People were beginning to leave their previous amusements to gather around the piano. Her voice and the piano were now the only sounds in the room.

I won't ask for much this Christmas

I won't even wish for snow

And I'm just gonna keep on waiting underneath the mistletoe

I won't make a list and send it to the North Pole to Saint Nick

I won't even stay up late to hear those ,magic reindeer click

I just want you here tonight holding onto me so tight

What more can I do

All I want for Christmas is you

Rain wailed away. No one could doubt what she was feeling. Her misery was as clear as the night sky.

All the lights are shining so brightly everywhere

And the sound of children's laughed fills the air

And everyone is singing

I hear those sleigh bells ringing

Santa won't you please bring me what I really need

Won't you please bring my baby to me

She launched into the last verse with more force than before.

I don't want a lot for Christmas

This is all I'm asking for

I just want to see my baby standing right outside my door

I just want him for my own

More than you could ever know

May my wish come true

All I want for Christmas is you

She let the last note die away. Looking up at everyone's faces, Rain froze then ran out the door. She stopped a few feet away from the house. Shivering in the cold, she had run outside without a coat or a sweater, Rain looked up. The sky was ablaze with stars. There was no moon to be seen, but the stars more than made up for it. A sing tear trickled down her cheek.

"Domon, she whispered.

Looking at the stars, words sprang unbidden to her lips.

A frosty Christmas Eve when the stars were shining

I traveled forth alone where westward falls the hill

And from many many a village in the darkness of the valley

Distant music reached me peals of bells a ringing

Then sped my thoughts to olden times to that first of Christmases

When shepherds who were watching heard music in the fields

And they sat there and they marveled for they knew they could not tell

Whether it was angels or the bright stars a singing

But to me heard afar it was starry music

The singing of the angels

The comfort of the Lord

Words of old that come a traveling through the riches of the times

And I softly listened as I stood upon the hill

And I softly listened as I stood upon the hill

Shivering she wrapped her arms around herself. Someone placed a warm cloak around her shoulders. Rain drew the red fabric closer to her then spun around in shock.

"Domon?"

He smiled at her, "You have a beautiful voice."

She blushed then flung herself into his arms.

"You're freezing Rain. Let's get you back inside."

They had just entered the house when Rain realized they were under the mistletoe. Domon grinned at her and leaned down to kiss her.

"Merry Christmas Rain."
