A Thousand Miles
Making my way downtown
Walking fast
Faces pass
And I'm home bound
Noin shifted the grocery bag she held. The streets were crowded with people who had just got off work. She should have waited till later before going shopping. But at this point she just wanted things over with.
Staring blankly ahead
Just making my way
Making a way
Through the crowd
She was exhausted, and the after work crowd didn't help. She'd been pulling eighteen hour shifts at work, and it was catching up to her. But there was so much to do. The Preventers had just been set up, and they were overworked and understaffed.
And I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
The woman stopped at a Chinese restaurant to pick up her takeout. She was too hungry to take the time to fix dinner for herself. Noin then headed home to her apartment.
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time could pass me by
Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight
The apartment was empty as usual. It was big enough for two people, but she only shared it with herself. It was missing Zechs. She missed Zechs.
It's always times like these
When I think of you
And I wonder
If you ever think of me
According top just about everyone, he was dead. Killed when he self-destructed Epyon to destroy Libra. But she didn't, couldn't, believe that. Noin had a hunch that he was alive. And her hunches had never been wring before, so she would trust her instincts and ignore what other people said.
Cause everything's wrong
And I don't belong
Living in your precious memory
She was lonely. She had her friends yes. And Relena, that girl was like a little sister to her. But as long as Zechs was absent, it was as if a part of her heart was missing. The only reason she kept going was that she knew that he was out there somewhere, and she knew someday he would return.
Cause I need you
And I miss you
And now I wonder
Knowing that he was alive didn't stop her from worrying about him though. In some ways it was a comfort, but in others it just made things worse. Noin would feel so much better if she was there with him. She belonged by his side.
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass me by
Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you tonight
She sighed; what she needed right now was a bubble bath and a good book. Her finger s lightly skimmed across a photo frame that sat on her night stand. It was on of the few photos she had of Zechs without his mask on. She picked up her old copy of The Hobbit and her bathrobe and headed for at least an hour of relaxation.
And I don't wanna let you know
I drown in your memory
I don't wanna let this go
I've fallen
Noin finally got out of the tub when the water was becoming cold. Her toes were prunes, but the tension had drained from her. Wrapping a blanket around her, she settled on the couch to finish her book. The radio was playing in the background, and against her will, Noin found herself dozing off.
Making my way down town
Walking fast
Faces pass
And I'm home bound
She woke as soft lips pressed against her own. Her eyes opened to meet a pair of sky blue ones. The world was obscured by a curtain of platinum blond.
"Zechs?" she whispered.
"Yes love; it's me."
Staring blankly ahead
Making my way
Making a way
Through the crowd
They sat together curled up on the couch as he told her what had happened to him after Libra's destruction. Noin just sat there holding his hand and listening. Finally when he finished, she spoke, "I'm glad you came back."
"I am too. But Noin, I can't stay. I don't think the world is ready for me to come back, an to tell the truth, I'm not sure I'm ready to come back."
Noin nodded sadly, "I understand. But Zechs, you don't have to go this minute."
He smiled, "No, I'll go in the morning."
And I still need you
And I still miss you
And now I wonder
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass us by
Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you
Noin woke the next morning alone in her bed. She sighed as she rolled over. Had it all been a dream? But there on the pillow next to her was a single white rose. Noin smiled as she picked it up.
If I could fall into the sky
Do you think time would pass us by
Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles
If I could just see you
If I could just hold you tonight
Owari (the end)
