Course Description
In this class, we will focus on the Structure and
Written Expression sections of the TOEFL. In this class, you will work to master the
skills by doing exercises in the textbook, on the CD-ROM, and in class. This class is an
elective. It is important and will help you improve your TOEFL score, but it is less
important than your other ESL classes. In other words, don't spend all your time doing
work for this class and skip your other ESL classes. Accordingly, you should spend 1 to 2
hours outside of class on the assignments and communication tasks each week. If you have
all the work done in your other classes, you can spend a little more, but be careful not
to let the TOEFL become more important than your ESL classes.
Each week you should do all of the following, in order:
1. Do the assigned skill work in your textbook (see the calendar for skills and pages).
2. Do the associated CD-ROM skills practice.
3. E-mail the results of your CD-ROM practice to your instructor.
4. Post any questions you have about the skills or the technology in the discussions area
of WebCT.
5. Bring your textbook and printouts to class the next week.
