Grades

Grades will be based on participation/performance in the following areas:

Homework/Participation 20%
Classwork/Quizzes 30%
Midterm Exam 20%
Final Exam - Week of March 18 (Time/Place: TBA) 30%

IMPORTANT NOTE:  In order to pass to Level 3 Grammar, you must have passing grades on all verb tense assignments, verb tense quizzes, and midterm exam/final exam verb tense sections.

HOMEWORK: You will have regular homework exercises from the textbook and from the Internet. You should do the textbook exercises and then correct your own work with a different color pen. You will hand in each week's homework (usually on Mondays).  I will check your homework to see if you are having particular difficulty with the grammar. I will NOT grade the homework, but I will give you credit for handing it in. You must hand in 90% of the homework assignments, or your grade will be lowered.
LATE OR MISSED ASSIGNMENTS: I do not accept late homework. If you miss a quiz or a test, you cannot make it up. If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to ask a classmate about the work you missed; you will still be responsible for the information you missed if it appears on an exam or a later assignment.
Attendance
If you are more than 10 minutes late, you will be marked absent. However, please come to class even if you are late.
There are no excused absences.
Missing 3 classes will result in your final grade being lowered 10 percentage points.
Missing 6 classes may result in your failing the course.
If you miss class, you are responsible for all the information covered in class. Please get the telephone number or e-mail address of a classmate who is dependable. You will have to rely on him/her to give you information if you are absent. If, however, you know beforehand that you will not be able to attend, let me know as soon as possible. Maybe you will miss less if we plan together.

 EXTRA GRAMMAR PRACTICE

You will find lots of practice software, especially "Focus on Grammar,"  in the Learning Center.  A word of warning, however:  the Advanced series, although it goes with our textbook, may have some grammar points that are too difficult.  These are covered in level 4 and level 5 grammar.  Be sure to check the contents of the software before you get into it.  For review, the Intermediate and Upper Intermediate levels should be fine.

For quick practice, here are on-line links.  Links with an asterisk (*) are especially good, I think.

DIAGNOSTIC (find out what you need to practice) ESL BLUES(s)
This doesn't test all of the grammar points in Levels 2-3, but it will help.  After you take the troubleshooting quiz, correct it, and then click on the problem areas for more practice.
