Running, ughhh...

My old school ghetto shoes. They are worn and torn with huge holes on top of the shoe (visible) and on the big toe of the same shoe. I've had them since junior year and I only got them because Malatesta told me to go get new shoes and get rid of my other ghetto ones. The reason I subject you to candid photos of these old dogs is because today I went running, voluntarily, with the Niketown Running Club. As most of you know running is something that I sincerely abhor (Me fail english? That's unpossible!) and since I came to that realization of this (around senior year) i've done the best I can to avoid it. In fact the last sustained run I had was about a year ago in my fitness class. But the thing is the lure of free stuff will always trump the will of a lazy man. The thing about the Niketown running clubs is that they are legit, free to join, and backed by a huge corparation. It's so good to be a Niketown club runner that they have raffles for free stuff every month, provide free food, will even give you a free shirt for running a 100 miles with the club. And is what lured me back into the running game. I'm guaranteed a shirt for just some effort over 10 weeks (a fancy one at that one that would probably cost more than my next paycheck) and then I could win a new pair of shoes or 20 bucks every month just by showing up. And it's really cool because all the people are down to earth. Even before we left I had talked to about 5 different people who just saying hi and offering me encouragement. So I ran five miles today.... good story... I think i'll tell it at parties. You can join the club, Mondays and Fridays at Niketown in downtown Portland, 5:45. Runs of 3, 5, and 7 miles. Please come hang out with me... I have no running friends.
