Grad Student Article Critique
No more than 5 double-spaced pages.
You should include the following:
- A
Review of the methodology and the findings (analysis and discussion) of
the study in the article (I won’t have a copy so spend some time on
the details here).
- Situate
the article and what it is investigating with things we have discussed in
class or that you have read about in other studies – how do these
data compare with other studies?.
- Provide
a critique of the article – that is, based on what we’ve
learned so far, what questions/issues do you have:
- With
the methodology (is it clearly defined? Are there any problematic issues
that the article does not discuss?)
- With
the analysis/discussion – are the results clear to interpret? Do you agree with the
author’s interpretation?
Are there better interpretations or analyses that you can think
of?
- With
the connection the author makes between linguistic and social factors
– is there a clear correlation? Did the author include both sides
of the variation coin?
