Where art & science meet design

Twig's moss terrariums are verdant worlds full of life and endless possibility. These lovely little worlds come fully assembled! All you have to do is insert the little figure (included) wherever your heart desires and see a whole new world grow.

Moss terrariums need to be kept out of direct sun and misted lightly every 2-4 weeks - that's it! We encourage daily conversations with the little folk, but that's optional.

What makes our moss so special? We love it. It's that simple. We have freelance mossers out there responsibly picking the best of the best for us, and shipping it as soon as it's harvested. Then, we give our mosses a special electrolyte bath and an organic pesticidal treatment. It's happy stuff, and it shows. Terrariums can last for years with minimal effort - we provide a care card with each one.

About Twig's Terrariums

Twig Terrariums is a verdant venture sprung from the minds of two old friends, Michelle Inciarrano and Katy Maslow. Twig's open studio and shop is located in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn (County of Kings, NYC), where you can find all types of terrariums (moss, plant, succulent, and air plant), do-it-yourself kits, unique gardening items and funky flora, as well as cool and unique gifts for just about anyone. Twig offers the ultimate in personalization - custom terrariums with scenes!

Twig began on a whim - Michelle, a lifelong plant nerd, convinced Katy, a skeptical poet, to gather some mosses and repurpose a cruet jar from her kitchen cabinet. What happened from there is a devotion and obsession that has yet to quit. The Twig chicks spent the next year experimenting with terrariums in all types of glass vessels, apothecary jars, kitchenware, tiny perfume bottles, gum ball machines, giant handblown pieces, chemistry flasks, and any odd glass object found on one of their epic antiquing adventures across the country.

The girls didn't quite know what the universe had planned for them. After making a few too many terrariums (try 50…each…packed into tiny NYC apartments) they decided to come up with a name and create a logo for this new venture.

After a few months of back-and-forth'ing with names, logos, and designs, the girls decided to mack out in Prospect Park. They had yet to find the one, the name that said it all. When lo, what lay on the grass but a perfect, knotty twig. And so it began, Twig was born. The original twig still resides at Twig headquarters, with a pretty green bow around it - so we don't use it in a terrarium!

Each Twig creation contains something special - a snapshot in miniature of one's daily life or passions; a brief moment of urban living amongst the mosses; a bucolic scene of a yogi by a waterfall; grazing sheep on rolling hills. Twig is about perspective and perception, creating lush backdrops for whimsical, ironic, and natural scenes.
