Web Publishing Using Netscape Composer

Publishing your Web Pages with Netscape Composer

The purpose of this tutorial is to show you how to transfer your files to the web server. This tutorial assumes you have already created a webpage or website in Netscape Composer. It is assumed you have basic knowledge of Netscape Composer.

  1. Open your webpage in Netscape Composer
  2. Go to the "File" menu in the upper left, click it, and select "Publish"
  3. A window will pop up that looks similar to the one below. In the example below, the user's login name is smithj. The Folder for the departments web site is physics_web. You will have to replace it with your own login name and departmental folder.
    • In the space where is says "HTTP or FTP location to publish to," you would type "ftp://web.pdx.edu/home/smithj/physics_web"
    • Where it says "User name", you would type smithj
    • where is says "Password:" you will put your password.
    • The space called "HTML Filename" is the filename you want your webpage to be known as when it is on the web servers. Your "default page" or "Home page", which is the first page a person would see should be called index.html .
    • Where is says "Other Files to include" you must chose how you want to upload the page. If you select "files associated with this page" you will upload all the images that are refrenced in your site. If you select "All files in page's folder" you will upload everything in the folder where your page is located on the local hard drive. You can individually select/deselect specic files by clicking the filenames.

  4. You should now see a popup showing your files being transfered.
