Publishing web pages to a department web site
- After setting up an ODIN account (http://www.account.pdx.edu), you will have 50 MegaBytes of storage space for using mail, web pages, etc.
- Once you are sure that your ODIN account is Web ready, you can store your
web pages in the "department_web" folder of your ODIN account (where "department_web" is the directory name that you will be assigned, like "history_web"). There are
several ways to transfer your web pages to ODIN:
- FTP (Using almost any FTP client, e.g. WSFTP for Windows, Fetch for Macintosh)
- Start the file transfer program on your desktop computer
- Connect to odin.pdx.edu
- Move your web pages to department_web, your Web directory.
-
Most Web Page Editors (eg. Netscape Composer, FrontPage, Pagemill, etc.)
See instructions for Netscape Composer and instructions for FrontPage
For other web page editors make sure you use FTP as the transfer method and use "odin.pdx.edu/home/YOURLOGIN/department_web" as the location to publish to.
- UNIX command prompt with text editor (This is for the UNIX user.
Just remember to put files in your department_web folder).
- You will want to name your MAIN web page index.html. The web page
with the name index.html will be the default web page that people
will see when visiting your web site "http://www.department.pdx.edu" (e.g. http://www.history.pdx.edu).
- You should now be able to publish web pages to ODIN. Your web page will
show up at http://www.department.pdx.edu, where
"department" is your department ID.
- For support, please send a detailed message describing what you need done to
help@pdx.edu. For urgent support send the above e-mail
with a subject line that mentions the word "URGENT" and call 725-9151 to bring the matter to our
attention.
