Popular Music Board
NEW
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Hire, train, and manage sound technicians (with Sound Coordinator) and promotions assistant.
  • Attendance at monthly meetings
  • Develops Student Fee budget in consultation with other members of Popular Music Board and Student Development Advisor
  • Accountable for fiscal integrity of PMB budget, ensuring that funds are spent in the best interest of the general student body at PSU and in accordance with Student Fee guidelines
  • Liaison between PMB members and Student Development and Faculty Advisors
  • Identifies, schedules and promotes noon gigs every Tuesday and Thursday during the Summer Term and Wednesdays and Fridays during the Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms.
  • Collaborates with other campus entities in order to bring concerts of a high quality and interest to the students of Portland State University.
  • Collaborates with other members of the Popular Music Board in order to create a smooth-running program for all members.
  • Identifies, schedules and promotes a minimum of two national acts per year for performance at PSU, including booking, contracting, advertising, scheduling rooms, and coordinating with key campus entities.
  • Coordinates National Act the night of show including: identification and coordination of volunteer personnel, sound support, set-up as well as coordination with Advisor, Smith Center personnel, and Campus Safety and Security.
  • Arranges for all publicity related to performances.
  • Directly supervises the PMB Sound Production Coordinator and the PMB Promotional Assistant
  • Coordinates day of show needs including: arranging parking permits for performers, delivering payment to performers and accommodating special needs
  • Coordinates and collaborates with other campus entities for special events during the noon hour.
  • When possible takes into consideration the varied needs of the campus community in programming, with the special intent to accommodate student interests
  • Works closely with Student Development Advisor on all matters as identified above.
  • Works with Accounting Technician for coordination of contracts with performers.
Dates: Interviews conducted on Dec. 11th. Selected candidate will begin immediately afterwards.
Payinfo: $525 / month
Procedures: Pick up an application at the SALP office between 11/26-12/11. All applications must be returned to SALP office no later than 5pm. Position only open to PSU students.

Gallery Assistant

The Art Exhibition Committee is a student fee funded organization whose mission is to enrich the cultural and educational experiences of Portland State University students by presenting exhibits of art and related activities.  The Art Exhibition Committee operates the Littman and White Galleries in Smith Memorial Center.  The Committee juries exhibitions for one-month showings in each gallery and hosts an opening reception for the first Thursday of every month.  The Gallery Assistant job is open to all university students who carry at least eight undergraduate or six graduate credits per term at PSU, excluding summer term.

World Dance

Participate in planning, organizing, marketing and other aspects of World Dance workshops and events including our 2nd annual Brazil carnaval in March. Also learn the ropes of the budgeting process and other administrative procedures. Meet several times a month (usually weekend afternoons in close-in SE) with World Dance and various community members to help plan our annual Brazil Carnaval to be held in March.
Event Volunteer:
Help distribute publicity materials and/or assist with our 8-week winter term samba class and/or day of event activities according to your interests and availability.
