Welcome to my favorite page.  It's an index of things real and unreal, done and undone, and redone again.  Some of the things are related to teaching, while others are simply (or complexly) expressions of my personal taste, or lack thereof.  If any of my favorites become yours, too, I'd like to know.  You can e-mail me at i6my@odin.pdx.edu.

Writing

I have a love-hate relationship with writing. I love to teach it and read students' papers, but I hate to mark and grade it. Some of the things that I love about it are:

Warm-ups:  A great way to start class, for low and intermediate levels.

A reflective essay:  A satisfying way (at least for the teacher) to achieve closure at the end of a term in an intermediate-level class.

Listening/Speaking

Warm-ups:  Student dictations and idioms provide note-taking practice and get things off  to a relaxed start.

Reading

Sources:  A list of "newsworthy" sources of articles for different levels.  Some have audio and video, so be sure you have the plugins and hardware.
