KILL ME TOMORROW
Chrome Yellow CD (SG-036)
$10.00 ppd

San Diego’s Kill Me Tomorrow borrows heavily from the post-punk minimalism of The Fall and injects its own collage of noise and obscure melodies to spruce it up for modern consumption. Influences range from 1960’s garage ("Lawn") to dark, experimental-electronic fusion ("Travelling Salesman Dilemma"). It sounds like holding a glass to a damp wall, eavesdropping on The Fall in the studio during the Kurious Oranj sessions with Calvin Johnson on guitar. - DrawerB

The closest comparison for Kill Me Tomorrow would have to be Sonic Youth. Like that perennial band, Kill Me Tomorrow doesn't want to play a basic pop tune. There are too many knobs to twist, too many pedals to push. Those who hate effects will loathe Kill Me Tomorrow, but anyone who is willing to give this batch of songs a bunch of open-minded listens will find that the band is doing something new and unique and still manages to create energetic and original tunes. - Delusions of Adequacy

nigel cd
NIGEL
Nigel CD (SG-040)
$10 ppd
Nigel’s a tough band to peg. Combining electronic elements, spacey rock, and catchy indie pop, the band would be comfortable beside American Analog Set one moment, then Pavement, then Portastatic. It’s an odd hodge-podge of styles, but the band – primarily the project of longtime friends Damon Ari-shea and Bebe – manages to give the band’s debut album a warm, comforting, and catchy feel. - Delusions of Adequacy

These folks sing at a near-whisper, and piano seems to dominate almost as much as the lean, clean lead guitar.....Centering on the drums gives these songs a deliberate feel, an easy cadence that makes it much easier to fall into step with the somewhat unconventional construction and use of melody. I have a feeling this is intentional...If not, it's still purty durned impressive. Nigel keeps the sound ultra-clean, but just a wee bit fuzzy. What I mean is that there's plenty of space between the instruments and vocals, but the sound remains slightly rounded. Very nice. - Aiding & Abetting

THE RED CHANNELS
The Red Channels CD (SG-039)
$10 ppd

From Oklahoma City and now located in Portland, Oregon, the Red Channels offer dark, menacing grooves reminiscent of the 80s...Sexy, beautiful, often catchy, and almost gothic, this is so good! - KZSU, Stanford University.

...I was now able to appreciate the cool, dark rhythms of "Now Playing", the creepy Casio effects of "It Was All Static" and the minor key melodies and the Middle Eastern-sounding scales that permeate the album. - READ Magazine

AM VIBE
AM Vibe CD (SG-038)
$10 ppd

There's something about the way dusky female vocals color light alt. pop that simply sounds right....The reason this works is that the music and lyrics have a hidden depth. At first listen this stuff sounds almost ephemeral. It's just that there's a certain something underneath that lends itself to repeat listens. There's a there there, after all. Jesus, did I just write that? Well, it does make sense. And I think it conveys the unusual charm of a.m. vibe quite well. - Aiding & Abetting

The music is excellent - very ethereal indie rock with a fuzzy, echoing production, like it was recorded on another planet. - READ Magazine

T*SHIRT
The Convincer CD (SG-037)
$10 ppd

Mellow indie bands can go either way. You can be disgusted with the boring pretentiousness of it all, or you can get sucked into the music like a ninja in a jet engine. T*Shirt is thankfully the latter - they have a lovely narcotic quality, with charming vocals and fuzzy guitars that keep things interesting... - READ Magazine

Fans of what was called "alternative" back in the early nineties (excluding the whole grunge thing) will find lots to like here. The rhythms are driving yet delicately complex, the guitars can be soft and chiming or slice through the melody with tasteful feedback and abstract noise. The male/female singing is earnest and intense. - Splendid E-Zine
